If you have time and are so motivated after reading this devotional thought, please take a careful look at Job chapters 32-42. You will see the concept of God make known to Job by Elihu, and then the self-revelation of God Himself. Now think of the most powerful thunderstorm you have ever witnessed and multiply that by all the thunderstorms that have ever happened or ever will happen. Add to that the mighty force of an earthquake, multiplied by all the earthquakes that have ever happened or ever will happen. Now consider all the tornadoes, tidal waves, volcano eruptions and atomic explosions, multiplied by their absolute total. Add all these immense outbursts of energy together and then consider their source. For all the power of nature combined together is a tiny fraction of the power of our God, the source of all power. (Psalm 115:1-3, Isaiah 46:8-11, Romans 11:33-36) Now consider all the wise people you have ever known. Multiply their wisdom and knowledge by that of all wise people in the past or to come in the future. Add to that the accumulated wisdom and knowledge of the ages. Include all stored data on computers and the "ability" of computers to perform for us. Add to that growing total all the potential knowledge that still lays undiscovered. You have only a half a drop of knowledge compared to the vast sea of the wisdom and knowledge of God, the source of all wisdom and knowledge. (Psalm 139:1-6, Colossians 2:3) And as we think "we" have made great progress in our ability to move from place to place much more quickly, especially by airplane and space ship, think of a God who does not need to move from place to place because there is no place where He is not! He is the source of all motion. (Psalm 139:7-10, Acts 17:26) Think how "we" pride ourselves on unlocking the genetic code, reproducing life in a test tube, and cloning new life from a cell. Think of the One who creates the very principle of life, who can bring the dead to life, who sustains all life, the source of all that we congratulate ourselves on discovering. The complexity, beauty, and wonder of all we see in life is a pale reflection of His Glory. (Psalm 139: 13-18, Colossians 1:16-17) Then let us cover our mouths with our hands and repent in dust and ashes when we speak of a god who can be manipulated, a god who changes his mind, a god whose purposes can be frustrated, a god who learns from His creation, a god who doesn't know what the future holds, a god who wishes for what he can't or won't get, or a god whom we judge as malevolent because he exercises his free choice to do with his creation what He deems worthy of his glory! Such a god is not God. But to the real and true God we confidently and humbly ascribe all Glory! |
