This series, taught by Dr. David Lawrence, consists of twelve lectures on the growth of Christianity from its beginning as recorded in the Biblical account in the book of Acts, to the year 1000. Features include the development of a systematic theology for the church, and of Christian literature and hierarchy, the concept of monasticism, the relationship of church and state, and a study of the amazing accomplishments of Christian missionaries often in the face of severe persecution. The series will provide the listener with an appreciation for God’s role in using men to shape the church, the strange blessing that heresy and persecution offered in challenging the Christians to define their beliefs, and the lessons that can benefit us today. We suggest to our listeners that many of the answers to questions raised today can be found by looking to the past. These lessons will confront you with the challenges, struggles, triumphs, and mistakes of our early Christian brothers and sisters, and will lead you to glorify God for what he has so wondrously done through his servants in time past.
