Ex. 7:4-5, “He will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites. And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it." Ex. 9:2-4, “If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back, the hand of the Lord will bring a terrible plague on your livestock in the field—on your horses and donkeys and camels and on your cattle and sheep and goats. But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt, so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die.'" What a blessing is God’s hand on us to sustain us and grant us success, but what a curse when it is raised against a person or nation in holy wrath and anger, as was the case with Egypt.
Psalm 75:7-9, “But it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another. For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup with foaming wine, well mixed, and he pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth shall drain it down to the dregs.” The hand that is mighty to save is also mighty to destroy! None shall escape!
Ezekiel 14:8-10, “And I will set my face against that man; I will make him a sign and a byword and cut him off from the midst of my people, and you shall know that I am the Lord. And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, the Lord, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. And they shall bear their punishment--the punishment of the prophet and the punishment of the inquirer shall be alike.” God sovereignly administers judgment, in this case to establish the truth of His word. Both false prophet and his hearers are judged, yet God himself sends the delusion on the prophet. (See 2 Thess. 2:11)
Ezekiel 20:33-35, "As I live, declares the Lord God, surely with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out I will be king over you. I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out. And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will enter into judgment with you face to face.” God’s hand also can bring discipline to the child of God, as a hand raised against a child to train the child, not to hurt him. God delivered His children from a punishment He inflicted on them for their sins. He shall deliver them, but He shall enter into judgment with them and hold them accountable. Thus with us.
