The Hand of God, Part 4: The Hand of the Lord Exerts Invincible Power

By Dr. David Lawrence

2 Chronicles 20:5-7, “And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court, and said, "O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you. Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?” The king of Judah wisely ascribes to God absolute power. When God raises His hand of providence, no power on earth, under or above the earth, mortal or immortal, can withstand Him!

Psalm 89:12-14, “The north and the south, you have created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name. You have a mighty arm; strong is your hand, high your right hand. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.” God’s invincible strength and his holy justice are compatible, meaning that no power anywhere any time can resist the holy justice of God!

Jesus affirmed that with God nothing was impossible. God can speak to the darkness, and it will become light. God can speak to our dead souls and they come alive. God’s power, reflected in His word and symbolized by His hand, are invincible and therefore always effective. How naive and fatally ignorant of man to think that he can resist the almighty power of God!
